Introduction
Rui Palha doesn’t like to say about himself. He prefers that people see his work and judge for themselves what he is about. He says:
Photography is a very important part of my space… it is to discover, it is to capture giving flow to what the heart feels and sees in a certain moment, it is being in the street, trying, knowing, learning and, essentially, practicing the freedom of being, of living, of thinking….
Any street photographer should love and respect the people of the street, the main actors of street photography.
Rui Palha was born in Portugal in 1953 and lives in Lisbon. He pursued photography as a hobby intermittently from the age of fourteen. Since 2001, he has devoted most of him time to capturing moments of life on the streets of the city. He cites Henri Cartier-Bresson, Elliot Erwitt and Robert Doisneau as influences, and their collective mark is apparent in his work.

Rui Palha’s work joins technical excellence with intimate connection to the subjects. I look at the people in his images and feel like I know them. I draw back and appreciate the range of tone, letting my eyes wander from detail to detail, moving through the engaging compositions; and then I dive back in for more with a smile.

Intimate, carring, revealing, unmasked. Rui captures his subjects true selves with sensitivity and understanding.

I have known Rui in flickr, and between the many photographers found in the web site he is what I admire more. Beyond to having an excellent technique and making a B&W Exceptional, succeeds in giving a spirit to all its photos. the persons who immortalize are present with their mood more than with their faces.

Outstandig serie here. A celebration of humanity. The use of the wide angle and the black and white is just spectacular. Each photo tells a story. Edition is also perfect. I will follow the work of Rui from now on.

Oh wow, so expressive… they really do draw you in.
I agree, just looking at these photos makes me feel like I know these people, and at the same time it makes me want to know more - their stories, their history, their future.
Brilliant.
