About this website
The purpose of GlobalCompassion.com (”Seeing the World”) is to display photography that reveals life (and stories from life) in people and cultures around the world. The work of one photographer will be featured on the main page each week with a set of nine to twelve photos each.
Prior to compassion we must see others and know their stories. But my goal is not to show typical “compassion” photos that invoke pity or guilt. I want to display photos that offer something more complex and fulfilling, sets of photos that invite connection, discovery, and engagement. Some photographers have a way of bridging the gap through their work, and I hope they will pass on some of their genius to viewers here.

Photographers
I want to celebrate and promote the work of skilled photographers with a passion for the people and cultures of the world and the life they express. This is a curated gallery, so only the work of selected photographers will be displayed. Featured photographers don’t have to pay any money or give up rights to their work, nor do I charge commissions or get involved in print sales.
Photographers are welcome to submit portfolios for consideration. If you know a photographer whose work would fit well in this gallery please refer him or her to submit work as well.

Copyright, ownerships, and privacy info
I display photographs in two ways:
a) I use photos supplied by the photographers with their direct permission.
b) I use photos that photographers have made available under a Creative Commons License. If you see your photos on display and don’t know how they got here, then you probably posted them online (e.g., at Flickr) under a Creative Commons License.
In either case, the photographers remain as the sole owners and copyright holders of their work, and I only display photos with their permission. I will remove their photos at any time if requested.
I respect the privacy of people who use this website. This is not a commercial website, and I will not post ads, harvest email addresses, or subscribe you to an email list (but you can subscribe yourself).
About me
My name is Andrew Gray and I live in Tokyo, Japan. I have lived and been immersed in a variety of cultures and places. I run a program called “Global Adventure” promoting cultural exchange in our city, and I take Japanese and internationals living in Japan on volunteer/study tours to Cambodia. I’m also a photographer of people and culture with ambition to take photos in the spirit of this gallery (see www.photosensibility.com).
